The Scores Are In – PDI Competition Round 1

A big WELL DONE to our 44 TPS members who took part in Round 1 of our PDI (Projected Digital Images) Competition on 28th September. Our guest judge, Tim Morland ARPS, had a huge task reviewing and scoring all the entries and we’re very grateful for his expert analysis and advice.

As we’ve come to expect at TPS, the standard of images was very good and seven images were selected by Tim for the magical 10/10 treatment! A well-deserved mention for perfect scores goes out to Anthea Hearne-Dudman, Roger Matthews, Seb Springbett, Barbara Witherington, Sarah Bedwell, Colvin Hazzard and John Nathan.

Full scores tables are available here.

But, as always, the most important thing on a competition night is that we enjoyed seeing a huge diversity of photographic styles and techniques and picked up some helpful tips and advice from our guest judge.

Our next competition night is just around the corner on 11th October, when we’ll be reviewing Round 1 of Colour Prints. For members, the deadline for PhotoEntry submissions is SUNDAY 7TH OCTOBER and, remember, you must bring your mounted prints to the White Hart Barn by 7.45pm on the competition night.

Next week we’ll meet in the hall behind the Godstone Baptist Church, right next to the Shell Service Station, with our guest speaker Drew Gibson sharing expert advice for Formula 1 and motorsport Photography.

And finally, in time-honoured fashion, here’s a selection of the judge’s favourite PDI Round 1 images, each of which scored 9 or more points. Well done to everyone!

Thinking of joining TPS? Here’s what you need to know!

Each new TPS season starts in September and this is the ideal time to join the club.

We’ll be kicking off our 2018-19 programme at 8pm on 13th September with a welcome event in the White Hart Barn in Godstone for first-time visitors and existing members. This event is free to attend and we’ll be explaining how TPS works, talking about some of the activities and speakers we have lined up for you, and sharing some tips and tricks for taking part (and, hopefully, triumphing!) in our club competitions. We’ll also be very happy to answer any questions you may have. It’s a very informal evening and a nice opportunity for everyone to catch up after the long summer recess.

Still undecided? A recent poll of our members showed that 95% are planning to renew for the coming season, including many who joined last year. We’re always looking for ways to keep the club fresh and interesting, and here’s what some of our members said when asked if they will renew:

Excellent club that provides great value. Friendly atmosphere. Informative programme.

Definitely renewing- good fun and nice people!

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first season with TPS and look forward to returning. The standard of organisation, quality of speakers and general friendliness of the club are all excellent.

Please come along if you’d like to find out how TPS can help you improve your photography with like-minded local enthusiasts. You don’t need to bring anything with you, just an open mind and attentive ear! And, if you decide you’d like to become a member, we’ll have New Member forms on hand so you can hopefully secure your place before we have to start a waiting list. For more on the joining process, please see our ‘How to Join’ page. This first-night event will finish no later than 10pm, but often finishes a little earlier; it all depends on how many questions you have. We’ll look forward to seeing you there 🙂

EVENT DETAILS: 8-10pm on Thursday 13th September 2018 in the White Hart Barn in Godstone. Free parking available outside and near the venue.
