This is the Home page for the Tandridge Photographic Society (TPS), based in the Tandridge district of East Surrey, centred on Caterham.
TPS will be hosting an exhibition of members' prints at the Godstone Fete on bank holiday Monday. In addition, as a follow up to our popular summer workshops, anyone who has attended one or more of the sessions is invited to come along with their camera, and receive hands-on advice and practical assistance in taking better photographs. Or just come for a chat, and to take a look at some of our work on display.
Our first workshop was a great success, attracting a dozen members of the public, as well as several existing club members. We hope the turnout will be as good for the remaining workshops.
Presentation notes for the workshop sessions will be made available here. This page will be updated subsequent to each session.
TPS members are running a series of three workshops throughout the summer, aimed at the general public as well as club members. The workshops take place on Saturday mornings at our usual venue, and there is a small charge of £2 to non-members. Each session comprises three short tutorials covering basic photographic and related computer skills. See here for full details.
The programme for the 2010-11 season has now been published. Just follow the Programme link on the left.
TPS members have been out and about with their cameras during the many events in the Caterham Festival, and you can see the results at our exhibition - being held, as last year, in the Church Walk shopping parade (outside Morrisons) in Caterham. On show will be many pictures taken during the festival, as well as a selection of competition prints made by members over the previous season. We hope everyone will come along to enjoy it - its free to look, and you can purchase prints as well.
With the completion of our AGM, all committee officers were re-elected for the next year, and we look forward to another exciting season starting in September.
In the meantime, there is plenty being planned for the summer: pub meetings, our involvement photographing the Caterham Festival events, concluding with our summer exhibition on the 26th June. In addition, John Nathan has been drumming up support for a series of photographic outings, aimed at beginners and experienced members alike. Details of summer events are to be found here.
One of our members has been very busy with his photography, and now the effort has paid off. We're pleased to announce that Dr John Nathan has been awarded an Associateship distinction by the Royal Photographic Society - so that adds ARPS to the long list of letters he can write after his name. Details of John's efforts will be found in the forthcoming TPS May newsletter, but you can view his stunning panel here.
Hearty congratulations to John - who's next to have a go?
The final round of our PDI competitions took place on the 8th, judged by Martin Faiers of Selsdon.
With yet another pair of perfect 10's, Maria Kjellen was crowned queen of the John Fox Trophy with her stunning underwater images (not taken in an aquarium - other judges please note!!) In the advanced class, Linda Dance romped home to take the Philips Cup by an easy margin, although the round itself was also notable for our club Secretary Steve Elms scoring two 10's for atmospheric images taken around the Thames in London.
Well done to all.
The first round of the newly designed SPA interclub competition was held at Cheam on Feb 3rd. TPS were up against Cheam and Epsom clubs, with 8 prints and 8 digital images entered from each club. Sadly, TPS came 3rd in the print round, which was won by a large margin by Cheam. However, we fared much better in the digital round, and came 1st, with Cheam coming 3rd, which just goes to show its all down to the specific images chosen. We now go forward to the next round of the digital competition. You can see the full scoresheet for our entries here.
Our members' galleries have now all been updated, using new software to provide a more interactive experience, and hopefully do a better job of showcasing the varied photography of our members. Several new galleries have been added, and some updated with new images, so do take a look.
As a quick guide: after selecting a specific member's gallery, click on any image thumbnail to expand that image. Hover your mouse pointer over the image to see the options available to the mouse, choose another image from the filmstrip on the left of the screen, or just press the left and right arrows to advance through the images. To automatically display a full slideshow just click the Play icon, or press the Spacebar after expanding the first image.
Note: javascript must be enabled in your browser to view the galleries.
This month sees two new competitions in our programme:
On Nov 5th we have the first two-part all (projected) digital competition, and we are expecting a large number of entries from members old and new.
On Nov 26th we have our first ever official Natural History competition, for prints and projected digital. After the very successful trial run last year, we are anticipating an enthusiastic set of entries. Full details of the criteria for Natural History are available on our Competitions page.
